2017/2018 Schedule: Ottawa On Road Radio Controlled Racing

We are going to be kicking off our 2017/2018 season a few weeks with the season opener September 24th. Much stays the same as last season with a few minor changes. As our general rules were already pretty much in line with the Canadian On Road Nationals the changes are minimal. Our “Sportsman” class will disappear meaning that this year USGT will be in line with CONRC.

Our core classes remain 17.5 Stock Sedan, 1/12 scale pan car and USGT. Additional classes will be run based numbers. We will run F1 / Mini or VTA provided there are a minimum of 5 cars in attendance to register. One or all classes may be run if the numbers warrant the class inclusion for the event. It is up to you folks to bring the numbers if you want to run your F1 / Mini / Pan car / VTA.

We have ONE loaner car this year. Basic “beginner” car (TC3) and will be set up for USGT intended to let would be newbies get their feet wet. I will need a couple of RCO members to help support new RC racers as mentors and mechanical “Pit crew” help. One of the keys is to foster new participants and help promote our hobby. Renter entry will be $40.00 (Rental fee includes first car class entry) with proceeds going into ongoing maintenance of the rental program. Rental will need to be reserved at minimum 3 days prior to the event to ensure we have time to prep the kits. I am always looking for spare batteries and electronic go parts, tires or even chassis, if you can help out please let me know.

Set-up will be done the evening before the event and practice time will be 8:00am to 10:00am Sunday morning depending on numbers we may begin racing earlier. Pack up of the track will begin immediately after the final main race, needless to say, the more bodies we have helping out the better for all of us.

For 2017 / 2018 again there will be no membership fee, and race day rates will stay the same as last year.

Race day rates:

  • First Class entry $25.00
  • Second / Third class $5.00 (each additional class)
  • Kids 16 and under $15.00

We will be doing 50/50 draws and raffles throughout the season on interesting prizes to help support continued maintenance of the track and timing hardware. Some of our timing hardware will need some repair / replacement this year so we do have specific goals in mind.

Maple Ridge Center canteen services on site will continue for this year. Check out our host facility on line as they have much to offer in the way of facility rental for non RC events as well.

IMPORTANT: “Spirit of Competition”

If it is not in the rules and does not encompass the spirit of controlled RC racing with realistic scale looking cars consider it illegal. The intent is to provide a level playing field and put the emphasis on “Fun friendly competition” Regarding TECH – we will be running on the honor system with each driver responsible for ensuring that their car is legal under the “RCO Basic Class Specification” with top three finishers in each main must be willing to submit their RC racer for a quick inspection should there be a protest from the run group. An inspection / self tech table will be provided for all participants to use at any time with the basic regulations posted for quick reference. Minimum Ride Heights are required to protect the running surface – the carpet is expensive and we want to keep it in good order for many years to come. Always use common sense and safety precautions when charging battery packs and please respect the facility we are fortunate to be permitted to use.

See you all in September!
